Pre-Kinder Class

This class runs from February to September for those children whose free child care scheme ends in January and decide not to go to a Kindergarten class in February but prefer to join our pre-kinder class. This class follows the kindergarten curriculum as established by the Education Department. It is led by a qualified early years educator and our main emphasis is learn through play based on the emergent curriculum approach.

Summer School

Summer School classes will run depending on rooms' availability and it is at the discretion of Magic Steps' management.

Emergent Curriculum

AN EMERGENT CURRICULUM – WHAT IT IS AND WHY IT’S IMPORTANT

At Magic Steps, we focus on the Emergent Curriculum approach, because it provides the best overall results for children of all ages. In our childcare centre, the children’s ages are from infancy through pre-kindergarten. An Emergent Curriculum means: What comes from the children is the curriculum. So, at our childcare centre, we say, The curriculum walks in the door every day. We ensure that the setting is more child-led, giving them free will when it comes to making choices.

An emergent curriculum involves the whole child; meaning the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical realms of development and learning.

What does that mean in practice? We provide rich, diverse resources and low key, respectful support to children’s emerging interests and their various in-depth explorations and multi-media expressions. We observe to discover what the children are interested in and build on those inclinations, interests, and fascinations to help them learn naturally and holistically as powerful individual learners and as effective members in successful learning groups.

Do Children initiate the explorations and projects? They explore and express themselves in their own way and in their own time. Each exploration or project can take weeks or months, depending on the children’s sustained fascination, and can morph into new lines of inquiry and investigation.

After School Hours (3+)

An after school service for pre-schoolers (3 - 5 years) whose parents work longer hours and want to leave their children in care during their working hours. This service is given at a minimal charge.
